... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT
Saturday...
An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT Saturday.
The warning is in effect for those areas along and south of a line
from Lumpkin... to Hawkinsville... to Swainsboro.
Temperatures across the area will increase to over 100 degrees this
afternoon and Saturday afternoon... with heat indices of at least 110
across the warning area. Nighttime temperatures will only drop into
the mid and upper 70s... which is not cool enough for critical
nighttime relief from the daytime high temperatures.
Remember... the elderly... the very Young... and people with heart
conditions are most at risk in extreme heat. People should check on
their friends... relatives... and neighbors who may be at risk.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids... stay in an air conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and
check up on relatives and neighbors.
