The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Flood Warning for urban areas and small streams in...
Anne Arundel County in central Maryland
Howard County in central Maryland
Carroll County in north central Maryland
Baltimore County in northern Maryland
Baltimore City in northern Maryland

* until 515 PM EST

* at 1117 am EST... a band of moderate to heavy rain was pushing
through the Baltimore metropolitan area and adjacent portions of
northern Maryland.

* One half to one inch of rain is expected as the band of rain moves
through this afternoon. This amount of rain will lead to ponding on
area roadways and minor flooding on creeks and streams.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...


Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... highways and underpasses. Additionally... country
roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks... streams and other low
lying areas are subject to flooding.

... Coastal Flood Warning now in effect until 11 am EDT Sunday...

The coastal Flood Warning is now in effect until 11 am EDT
Sunday.

Water levels remain 2 to 3 feet above normal on the tidal Potomac
River and Maryland Chesapeake Bay... with some locations along the
tidal Potomac having water levels approaching 4 feet above normal.
These positive departures will result in moderate tidal flooding
during high tides this afternoon and evening.

With persistent eastely winds and the new moon phase of the lunar
cycle tonight and Sunday... moderate tidal flooding is again
expected with overnight high tides tonight. In addition... fresh
water runoff will enhance the flood threat on the upper tidal
Potomac.

through Sunday night. Along the mainstem Potomac
River... moderate flooding is likely to start this evening at
Paw Paw... Harpers Ferry... Point of Rocks and Little Falls... and
last through Sunday night. Along the mainstem Shenandoah
River... moderate flooding is likely at and downstream of
Millville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

Monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings.
Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to
take action should flooding develop.
